I am a nationally accredited mediator. I hold mediator qualifications from Bond University (2001) and QUT (2021), and have conducted and represented many parties in numerous mediations.
I am the ONLY barrister in Queensland who is an estate account assessor, qualified under the UCPR and approved by the Supreme Court of Queensland to assess deceased estate accounts. Click here to view the Supreme Court register of Approved Account Assessors under UCPR 657K.
Before being called to the bar, I practised as a solicitor for 32 years (from 1989 to 2021). I am experienced in conducting and overseeing complex litigation, and providing strategic expertise to teams of lawyers. My experience includes succession law, family law, professional negligence, and general/commercial litigation.
From 1995 to 2002 I conducted my own legal practice at Beenleigh.
In 2002 I sold my Beenleigh practice to Quinn & Scattini Lawyers and commenced work as an employed solicitor at Quinn & Scattini. I continued to supervise the Beenleigh office, as well as mentoring many junior and senior solicitors in various areas of law across several offices.
In 2009 I became an Accredited Specialist in Succession Law. From 2006 to 2021 I was the Team Leader of the Wills & Estates Team at Quinn & Scattini.
From 2011 to 2021 I was a shareholder and director of Quinn & Scattini Lawyers (and under its new name of Ryan Murdoch O’Regan Lawyers). During that time I continued being the Team Leader of the Wills & Estates Team and also at times served as the Team Leader and Supervising Director of the Commercial Litigation Team, and Supervising Director of the Personal Injuries Team.
The types of civil litigation cases I have conducted are many and varied, including debt recovery, contract disputes, professional negligence, personal injuries, unfair dismissal, anti-discrimination, freezing orders (Mareva injunctions), judicial review of administrative decisions, motor vehicle property damage, compulsory acquisition of land, and setting aside statutory demands.
From a business perspective, I have many years of experience as a sole practitioner, and then as a director of a mid-sized incorporated legal practice (with up to 7 offices and more than 60 staff), dealing with the many challenges that face legal practices.
By way of community service, I have served as the President of the Logan/Beenleigh District Law Association, and also as a Director (for many years) and the President of the Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce.
I am now accepting briefs for:
Deferred fees and speculative fees are accepted in suitable cases.
Legal Aid briefs are accepted.
I am willing to travel to appear in all Queensland courts.
In addition to my experience as a barrister, I conducted many hearings as a solicitor-advocate before I came to the bar. Some of my cases (as counsel and as solicitor-advocate) are as follows:
· Masih v Masih [2021] QSC 207. (In the subsequent unreported costs
hearing, the court ordered the estate to pay the costs of my client, the
applicant, on the indemnity basis.)
